More than one or two posts are leaning

One leaning post is a repair. Several leaning posts, especially along different sections of the fence line, usually means the whole run has aged out together and a patch job just moves the problem down the line.

Wood is soft, splitting, or rotted at the base

Where the post meets the ground is where wood fails first. If several posts or panels are soft or rotted at the base, the fence has been losing structural integrity for a while, not just at the one spot you noticed.

You have already paid for repairs more than once

If this is the second or third repair call on the same fence line in a few years, the math usually favors a full replacement, one job, one warranty, instead of paying to patch the same aging fence again.
